Citrix Application Performance Management
Networking solutions provider Citrix has partnered with next generation firewall technology provider Palo Alto (News - Alert) Networks to further advance software-defined networks (SDNs) for optimal delivery of any application to any employee. As a result, reports Sci-Tech Today, the partners will be able to deliver native application intelligence, template-based management and high performance optimally in any application to any employee. The Sci-Tech Today report indicates that this multi-phase relationship will begin with validated joint solutions for Citrix XenApp and XenD
In essence, the partnership with Palo Alto Networks marks a new direction for next generation NetScaler SDX for SDN, wrote Sci-Tech Today writer Barry Levine. As per this report, NetScaler SDX allows customers to run as many as 40 independent NetScaler application delivery controller instances on a single multi-tenant SDX hardware appliance with full isolation. Also, Levine wrote that NetScaler SDX delivers applications from a data center.
According to Sci-Tech Today’s report, SDNs move network control and intelligence from switches into a more flexible software layer to provide a more scalable control with lower hardware costs. Consequently, wrote Levine, “Citrix is opening up the NetScaler platform to support services from third-party vendors, which is expected to lead to greater application intelligence within SDN technologies.”
Citrix said that a number of partners are extending their network and security services to the NetScaler SDX platform. They include Aruba Networks, BlueCat Networks, CSE Secure Systems, RSA, Splunk, Trend Micro, Venafi and Websense (News
- Alert).
The Sci-Tech Today’s report quotes Sunil Potti, vice president and general manager of the Citrix Cloud Networking Platforms Group, as saying, “SDN has the potential to deliver a new level of flexibility, but if an SDN is not app-aware, it cannot deliver on its promise." Furthermore, he added, “the next-generation NetScaler SDX platform provides the application intelligence necessary to make emerging SDN deployments truly app-driven."
The report also presents comments from industry analysts and pundits. For instance, Charles King, an analyst with Pund-IT, said that Citrix is most likely reacting to recent acquisitions in the industry. A few months ago, VMware acquired Nicira , and Oracle (News
- Alert) bought Xsigo.
